The Google Dance... What Exactly Is The Google Dance Article   Once a month, usually in the last third of the month, the Google database is updated by recalculating the pageranks of each end every one of the pages they have in the database. This is known as the Google Dance because all pages are jumping up and down through the search results. Since the Pagerank is of such a complex nature, the calculations needed to be performed to determine the rank of every page need to be repeated about 40 times. Because the database is so large the calculations take about a week. Because the fluctuations that happen in the results, minute in and minute out sometimes, the update has been called "the dance", Google Dance. There are two more servers that can be used for searching, during the monthly update the results change on those servers too and they are part of the Google Dance. When there are differences between the result displayed on the three servers usually the dance is going on. During the month, fluctuations might sometimes occur. This should not be confused with the actual Google Dance, this happens because Google adds fresh content to the database, this is called "Everflux". During the Google Dance, How To Check New Rankings Besides the www.google.com server, Google has two more servers that are searchable, www2.google.com and www3.google.com. During the month, the results on all three servers are the same, during the dance the results will change from server to server. Usually the rankings that can be seen on the second and third servers are the new rankings that will be transferred on www when the dance is over. The calculations are done 40 times but the final rankings can be seen very early because, during the first iterations, the figures are getting close to the values they'll have when the dance is over. After the first iterations the figures might change but not too much. For short periods of time, the results from the second and third servers will show on the main server. For sometimes the fresh results from www2 and www3 can disappear. The results from www2 and www3 wil match the results on the main server at the end of the dance.
